Getting to Portugal and Around

Portugal is in South-Western Europe and is easily reachable from wherever you are.

The distances are small in Portugal and you can get almost everywhere easily and efficiently by train, bus or ferry. However trains are usually cheaper.


Almost all major airlines fly to Portugal (British Airways, Air France, Lufthansa), besides the country's own TAP Portugal, that flies to and from more than fifty cities in Europe, Africa, the Middle East, Macau and North and South America, as well as operating regular domestic flights between Porto, Lisbon, Faro and the Atlantic archipelagos of Madeira and the Azores, and also between the islands of Madeira and Porto Santo


Trains reach most of larger cities from Lisbon to Porto, Braga, Aveiro, Coimbra, Evora, Faro. Lisbon is connected to Madrid, Spain; Porto to VigoSpain; Vilar Formoso to Spain, France and the rest of Europe. All trains are operated by CP (Caminhos de Ferro Portugueses).


International Driving Permits and foreign driving licenses are accepted. If you Traveling by taxi is relatively cheap, and in all cities plentiful. Across major towns and for shorter journeys in areas where other transportation may be limited, a taxi is worth considering.


The country is served by numerous sea ports that receive a lot of foreign traffic, mostly merchant but also passengers boats (mainly cruisers).
